Singapore sailors have won their country’s first ever gold medal at the Asian Para Games.
Jovin Tan and Qian Yin Yap won 7 of the 9 races to take first place in the 2014 Games, being held at the Wangsan Sailing Marina in Incheon, South Korea. The pair, sailing Hansa 303 doubles, only teamed up a year ago and have also had success this year at regattas in Auckland and the UK.
Shinya Yamamoto and Mari Kitagawa from Japan took silver, with Nurual Amilin Balawi and Mustafah Junell from Malaysia winning bronze. Sailors from Korea and Hong Kong, along with another team from Singapore, completed the 8 team fleet.
The Asian Para Games are held every four years, with the next event in 2018 to be held in Indonesia, after the original host city – Hanoi, Vietnam – withdrew because of financial concerns.
The final placings can be found here.
Congratulations to all sailors who took part.
