David Adams

Patron of Sailability NSW. Australian Yachtsman of the year 1995-96.

After starting sailing at the age of 12, David Adams went to sea at 18 as an appretice officer in the merchant navy. Thirteen years later he left with his ships captain's qualification, having lost count of how many times he circumnavigated the globe in commercial ships.

In May 1995 Australian David Adams made history with a record-breaking win in Class 2 of the 27,000 mile BOC Challenge 1994-95 solo around the world yacht race. Averaging four hours sleep a day, in grabs of only 30 minutes at a time, the 41 year old master mariner sailed his Australian designed and built yacht True Blue at maximum speeds throughout this arduous event.

David has competed in six Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races. In 1987 he won the Yamaha Osaka Cup, winning the Best Seamanship Award and has successfully competed in numerous other ocean racing classics. He is author of 'Chasing Liquid Mountains'.

David assisted in training our first ever Sonar racing team for the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney.
